Very scarce china platter custom-ordered by Thomas Jefferson when he served as Secretary of State under George Washington. Large blue platter with gilt accents features an oblong shallow bowl with gilt "J" at center, inside a shield bearing a knight's head decoration. Platter measures 13" x 10.5" 1.125" high. This Jefferson china is very scarce, with pieces housed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Monticello. Some small chips along underside of rim, generally unnoticeable unless platter is turned over. Some rubbing to gilt monogram. Overall in very good plus condition.
