Sinclair Lewis signed copy of his masterpiece ''Main Street'', the controversial novel that initially won the 1921 Pulitzer Prize only to be overturned by the Board of Trustees, and which secured Lewis the 1930 Nobel Prize in Literature, the first American to win the Prize. New York: Harcourt, Brace and Howe, 1920. Lewis inscribes this association copy on the front free endpaper to fellow authors Charles Hanson Towne and Claire Wallace Flynn, ''Charley Towne taught me to be a godly worker in the magazine vineyard, + Claire Flynn provided me with one of the best wives I have recently met, + I come eagerly into their Thanksgiving party + add Christmas greetings. / Sinclair Lewis / Washington / Dec. 27, 1920''. Penned over an inscription from Towne to Flynn, and accompanied by a printed card reading ''This Book is sent with the compliments of the Author and Publisher''. Measures 5'' x 7.625'', bound in navy blue boards with orange blocking and lettering, lacking jacket. Separation to front hinge and backstrip, otherwise very good condition.
