Rare triple edge paintings of sensual scenes, uncommonly painted on three sides: the top, bottom and fore-edges of ''The Lay of the Last Minstrel'' by Sir Walter Scott. Fore-edge painting in particular features a panoramic depiction of ''The Loves of the Gods'', concealed by gilt and only expressed when pages are fanned. London: Longman, et al., 1810. Bound in period vellum with gilt embellishments, humorously titled ''Scott's Lay'' on spine. With private bookplate of the Rev. W. Parker on front marbled pastedown. Housed in marbled slipcase, matching endpapers. Book measures 5.5'' x 8.625''. Light wear and foxing, overall very good condition.
