Stark 16'' x 20'' photo of the destroyed Apollo 1 command module, signed by Apollo 16 moonwalker Charlie Duke, who also adds a handwritten statement about improving astronaut safety after the fire. Composed in silver felt-tip, Duke writes in full, ''After the tragic Apollo I fire on the launch pad that killed Grissom, White and Chaffee in January 1967, Stu Roosa and I were assigned to represent the astronaut office on the emergency egress escape team. Two escape routes were developed. One was to exit the spacecraft, run to the pad elevator, take it to the bottom of the pad, exit and run through a shower, then jump into a slide tube, then run into the blast room. In the blast room the crew could survive an explosion for 30 days! / Charlie Duke / Apollo 16 Moonwalker''. Photo measures 16'' x 20''. Near fine condition.
