Rene Gagnon WWII autograph letter signed as a Private First Class in the U.S. Marine Corps. He writes to his girlfriend Pauline Harnois, whom he would marry upon his return from war. Dated 12 February 1944 from the Naval Prison Camp in Charleston, South Carolina, Gagnon writes about shipping out for combat, ''...They put up the list of the men that are shipping out, and I'm not going with this bunch, that means that I'll be able to get my furlough next month...I just can't wait to get back for good...Well I've got to go back to duty now so I'll sign off...Rene...'' Accompanied by the mailing envelope made out in Gagnon's hand in ink, including his name and return address. Letter in ink runs 2pp. on a single sheet of Marines stationery, measuring 7.25'' x 10.5''. Toning and creasing, else near fine.
