Charles Darwin autograph letter signed, dated 20 May 1861 on stationery from his home in Down Bromley. Darwin here writes to his financial advisor John Higgins, in full, ''My dear Sir / I beg leave to acknowledge & thank you for 239 - 9 - 7 being half-year's rent, placed to my account at Union Bank. / My dear Sir / Yours sincerely / Ch. R. Darwin''. Darwin also writes Higgins' name at bottom. Single page measures 5'' x 8'', with docketing on verso. Darwin purposely signs over a duty stamp at conclusion of letter. Shallow folds, and minute discoloration at upper left, else near fine condition with a bold signature.
