Front page reporting on the death of Thomas Jefferson in the ''Niles' Weekly Register'', a Baltimore newspaper. Issue dated 8 July 1826 begins with the coverage, ''A great man has fallen - Thomas Jefferson, the liberal and the just, the wise and the good, hath departed from works to rewards...'' The paper notes that Jefferson died on July 4th, the 50th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Interestingly, no mention of John Adams' death is made, though he died on the same day as Jefferson. Paper runs 16pp. and measures 6'' x 9.675''. Toning and with previous owner's stamp on last page. Very good condition.
