The famous AJAX-12 Soviet spy camera system, designed for female operatives to use in a purse, circa late 1950s at the height of the Cold War. Sophisticated set-up includes a faux-reptile black purse with a cut-out on the side to allow for the F-21 camera lens (housed inside the purse with metal brackets) to surreptitiously take photos. The spy would operate the camera by pressing a button to activate the battery (also housed inside the purse) that would then turn a wheel via wiring to advance the camera's shutter. Battery is no longer functional, camera itself has not been tested. Camera and purse closely resembles an example presented on page 16 of ''The Secret History of KGB Spy Cameras'', which accompanies the purse. Purse measures 8.5'' across x 7.25'' tall x 5'' wide, not including strap or handle.
