Charles Darwin letter signed, dated 27 May 1869 at which time Darwin would have been working on his publication ''The Descent of Man, and Selection in Relation to Sex''. Darwin here writes to his land agent John Higgins, regarding rent collected from Darwin's farm at Beesby. Writing from Down in Beckenham, Kent, letter reads in full, ''My dear Sir / I beg leave to acknowledge the sum of 263 - 13 - 6 being half a year's rent & placed to my credit at the Union Bank / My dear sir / Yours very faithfully / Ch. Darwin''. Single page letter measures 4.875'' x 7.875''. Darwin purposely signs over a duty stamp at conclusion of letter. Very good plus condition. Docketed by Higgins' office on verso, and accompanied by other paperwork from his office.
