United Nations flag, circa early December 1946 shortly after the nascent organization convened in San Francisco for its inaugural meeting. Understanding that the UN should have an emblem in the form of a flag, a committee headed by architect and designer Oliver Lundquist was formed, with blue chosen as the color of peace, and olive branches encircling a globe. This flag has thicker olive branches than the flag adopted by the UN on 7 December 1946, but it doesn't center the Americas, which is how the first iteration was presented, thereby possibly making it a rare intermediary version. Heavy-weight cotton flag measures 6' x 4', made by the Paramount Flag Co. of San Francisco, as stamped on the hoist. With two metal grommets on the hoist, and ''United Nations'' also handwritten on the hoist. Sewn in three sections. Light soiling but fully intact, in very good plus condition.
