Charles Darwin autograph letter signed, dated 3 December 1861 on stationery from his home in Down Bromley. Darwin here writes to his financial advisor John Higgins, in full, ''My dear Sir / I beg leave to thank you & acknowledge the sum of 245 - 18 - 0 being 1/2 year's rent to be placed to my account on Friday. / My dear Sir / Yours sincerely / Ch. Darwin''. Darwin also writes Higgins' name at bottom, with a squiggly paraph at the end of ''Esq''. Single page measures 4.5'' x 7.25'', with docketing on verso. Darwin purposely signs over a duty stamp at conclusion of letter. Vertical crease, and small paper loss at corner, overall very good condition.
