World War II Japanese Instrument of Surrender, one of the full-sized period copies given to U.S. military personnel in Japan shortly after the end of the war. Eight facsimile pages measuring 14'' x 20'' include both the English and Japanese translations of the Surrender document as it was signed on the U.S.S. Missouri in Tokyo Bay, Japan on 2 September 1945, officially ending World War II. After the ceremony, a limited number were made for U.S. military personnel, with this copy ultimately given to Captain Cameron Moseley, the officer in charge of Fukushima Prefecture in Japan with the 88th Military Government during the occupation after the surrender. Moseley in turn gave it to his legal assistant, Staff Sergeant Ludwell B. Pruett. All eight pages are paper clipped at top, with the last page reading ''48 14159'' at type on bottom. Pages show no watermark. Some light chipping to edges and rolled for storage, overall in very good condition. With an LOA from the family of Ludwell Pruett, and with copies of his military records during his time in Japan.
