Hunter S. Thompson typed letter signed ''H'' in type with Thompson circling his initial, composed on 22 February 1968 with lots of content regarding the 1968 Presidential election and the upcoming Democratic convention. After the publication of ''Hell's Angels'' a year prior, Thompson wrote extensively about the 1968 election, often using the pseudonym Raoul when reporting on it. Letter on custom Owl Farm stationery to his friend Paul Semonin reads in part,
''...enroute to New Hampshire to deal with Nixon. I meant to spend a night on the way back, but got hung up in Manchester and took a last-minute flight out of Boston. I had several things to settle in NY, but I guess they'll have to wait. All my contracts are still 'pending,' and that's a bit scary right now. I want to get everything straight so I can stop worrying about it. And write...for a change...
I think you should move to L.A. and join the white power movement; it would give you a sense of ethnic participation. Any chance of your making the Demo convention this summer? I plan to be there, in one guise or another. I sense some rare photo possibilities. And a chance to use my new karate techniques...H''. Single page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds and light toning, overall very good plus condition.
