Hunter S. Thompson typed letter signed ''HST'' in type with Thompson circling his initials, composed on 10 April 1968, six days after the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr., which Thompson writes about here, in addition to ''greedheads'' taking over Aspen. On custom Owl Farm stationery, letter to his friend Paul Semonin reads in part,

''...Maybe we're not all [n-word], as somebody once said, but it's beginning to look like we'll all end up working for Puerto Rico News Service. The only solace I find in that is that I paid my dues early...The King business has pretty well soured me on the future of this evil [f-word] country, and what's happening in Aspen these days has destroyed my notion of a mountain retreat. The greedheads are everywhere; they are god's own offal and the only argument against destroying them is the fact that they'll take most of us with them when they go. That is the question...

As for Ramparts, they recently gave my phone number to a SF libel lawyer who's been chasing me for six months, in order to supoena [sic] me...re: that Cavalier article lawsuit. Everything was cool until Ramparts, for some reason, blew my cover. The [f-word] who called me used [Warren] Hinckle's name and then laughed when I fell for it. So I'll now have to hire another lawyer, in addition to the ones I'm paying in NY and Denver. I'm beginning to believe that [Charles] Starkweather was right...HST''. Singe page letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds, overall near fine condition.
