Abraham Lincoln military commission signed as President, appointing John Mix to Second Lieutenant in the Second Cavalry Regiment on 6 February 1862. At this time, Mix served in the 3rd New York Cavalry, which saw steady fighting throughout 1862, and would transfer to the U.S. Army 2nd Cavalry at the end of the year, ultimately earning the rank of Captain. Document features a bold signature by Lincoln, signed with his full name, ''Abraham Lincoln''. Countersigned by Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton. With intact blue paper seal, and decorative military vignettes. Vellum document measures 15'' x 19.5''. Folds, and some spotting to left edge, otherwise near fine condition.
