Knute Rockne typed letter signed, on University of Notre Dame letterhead and dated 30 October 1928, eleven days before Rockne delivered the most famous coaching speech of all time: ''Win one for the Gipper''. Rockne writes to Curly Byrd, head of the Football Coaches' Association, asking him if he can borrow the mailing list to advertise ''an excursion to Havana from New Orleans''. Rockne continues, ''I won't bother them -- I just want to send each one of them a circular and that is all.'' Signed ''KK Rockne'' at conclusion. Letter measures 8.5'' x 11''. Folds, some discoloration at bottom and light creasing. Very good condition. With JSA COA.
