Theodore Roosevelt military commission signed as President, appointing George Wieczorek to Second Lieutenant of Infantry on 26 December 1901. Roosevelt was himself a war hero, having led the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War and elected to the Presidency largely on account of his service. Document is countersigned by Secretary of War Elihu Root with blue paper seal at lower left and military vignettes at top and bottom. Vellum document measures 16'' x 20''. Small amount of foxing and minute portions of mouse chewing along edges, overall in very good condition with a bold Theodore Roosevelt signature.
