First president of baseball's American League, Ban Johnson signs ''B.B. Johnson'' in pencil to a letter typed in blue on American League stationery. Datelined Chicago, 15 October 1955, Johnson writes to Captain T.L. Huston, Secretary of the Base Ball Club in New York, ''Dear Sir: - I have your letter of October 11th, enclosing agreement for the purchase of T.F. Daley [name underscored by hand] from Toronto, and have forwarded same to Commission headquarters for record...'' Tom Daley also played for the Reds and Athletics. 1pp. measures 8.25'' x 11''.
