Large and dramatic 19th century lithographic poster of Charles Dickens' ''David Copperfield'' by Jules Cheret. Published by Chaix in 1884, poster advertises the 1885 French edition of Dickens' novel published by ''Librairie Hachette et Cie''. Illustrated by noted poster artist Jules Cheret (called ''The Father of the Modern Poster''), artwork shows the novel's protagonist gazing upwards at an individual in one of the many window scenes throughout the book. Poster in French advertises the sale of the novel at ''Tous les Libraires et Marchandes de Journaux'' (''All Booksellers and Newspaper Merchants''), measuring 33.5'' x 48'', framed to 36'' x 51''. Tax stamp on the ''R'' of Copperfield, overall in very good condition with still vibrant colors.
