Albert Einstein envelope signed from Berlin in 1917, a few years after he founded the Theory of Special Relativity. Einstein addresses the envelope to his friend Michele Besso, the only person credited on Einstein's groundbreaking theory; in fact, Einstein wrote in his scientific paper, "In conclusion I wish to say that in working at the problem here dealt with I have had the loyal assistance of my friend and colleague M. Besso, and that I am indebted to him for several valuable suggestions." Einstein writes his name, "Abs[ender]. A. Einstein" in the lower left corner of the envelope, along with his address in Berlin. In the sendee portion, he writes Besso's name and address in Zurich. Postmarked from Berlin on 29 April 1917. Measures 6" x 4.75". Torn open along top fold and light wear, overall very good condition.
