Portrait measuring 8'' x 10'' of Abraham Lincoln, taken on 3 June 1860 by Lincoln's favored photographer Alexander Hesler. Lincoln's law partner, William H. Herndon, wrote of this image, ''There is the peculiar curve of the lower lip, the lone mole on the right cheek, and a pose of the head so essentially Lincolnian; no other artist has ever caught it.'' Print was done by George B. Ayres in 1881 from Hesler's original glass plate, and is signed on the verso by Ayres, ''Copyright / Geo. B. Ayres / Phila.'' Photographer's blind stamp also appears at upper left and lower right corners, ''G.B. Ayres / Copyright 1881''. Photo is affixed by tape on verso to mat measuring 9.5'' x 11.5''. Near fine condition.
