Theodore Roosevelt typed letter signed as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, dated 2 August 1897. Roosevelt writes to a Mrs. Mary E. Trautman, in part, ''...On my return from a trip of inspection of the naval militia I find your letter. I shall be in Washington steadily now, and any time you come here I shall be very glad indeed to see you...[signed] Theodore Roosevelt''. Letter has been trimmed, measuring 5'' x 5.5''. Folds and bend to lower right, otherwise near fine.
