First edition, first printing of William Faulkner's breakthrough novel, ''The Sound and the Fury'' in the first printing dust jacket with ''Humanity Uprooted'' listed for sale at $3.00 on the rear. New York: Jonathan Cape & Harrison Smith, 1929: Book and jacket are both in very good condition: hinges are starting on book and there is some bumping to boards. Dust jacket is sunned on the spine, 1.5'' closed tear on spine fold and light soiling, but fully intact with no paper loss. Measures 5.5'' x 7.75''. Copy is from the collection of noted Faulkner collector Clifton Waller Barrett, with his armorial bookplate on the front pastedown. Housed in a custom clamshell box.
