Endearing Garth Williams Scene from ''Little House on the Prairie'' -- Signed Print Proof From the 1953 Edition

Garth Williams initialed print proof for Laura Ingalls Wilder's ''Little House on the Prairie'' children's books. Williams had a successful career illustrating children's animal books before being chosen to create the drawings for the 1953 ''Little House'' series. Here he expertly renders horses in his sketch of the Ingalls children, who appear in the background. The 5.75'' x 6'' print, the size it appears in the book, is initialed by Williams in the lower right corner in ink. He pencils ''3.05059'' on the verso. Fine.
