English football legend Herbert Chapman letter signed from 20 December 1926, typed on Arsenal Football Club letterhead. Named as the greatest football manager of all time by ''The Sunday Times of London'', Chapman is credited with many innovations to the sport such as numbers to the backs of jerseys, floodlighting, and numerous training techniques. Letter is addressed to A.W. Turner, secretary of the Tottenham Hotspur football club, and concerns the sharing of gate receipts for a match. Chapman signs the first page of the 2pp. letter (two separate sheets), which reads, ''Dear Mr. Turner / Enclosed please find cheque for 382:18: 3 being your share of the Gate here on Saturday last, as per statement herewith. With kind regards / Yours faithfully / [signed] Herbert Chapman / Secretary-Manager.'' Second page is a detailed receipt related to expenses for the game. Measures 8'' x 10.25''. Two hole punches to top of each page, and two very small closed tears on first page. Very good plus.
