Olympic torch from the 1988 Olympic Torch Relay. The Torch Relay tradition was begun in 1928, where a spark from the parent flame in Olympia, Greece ignites the torch that begins the Relay, ending in the host city in time for the opening ceremonies, in this case Seoul on 17 September 1988. Gold torch contains handle with brown leather grip and maroon handle guard with ''Games of The XXIVth Olympiad Seoul 1988'' and Korean characters written in gold raised lettering. Bowl portion features black and gold engraving of two dragons, symbolizing the unity between the East and West, and with the red, blue and yellow ''Seoul 1988'' Olympic logo to bottom portion of the bowl. Measures 20'' long with bowl measuring 4'' in diameter. Near fine condition.
