Lot of WWI letters sent by Kate Wilson, wife of Woodrow's brother Joseph. Lot includes 5 autograph letters signed and one typed letter signed, with 3 of the ALsS on White House stationery. Letters address the subject of her daughter-in-law and daughter's weddings, both of which were held on the White House lawn in 1913 and 1918 respectively. In one letter she discusses the challenge in having a wartime wedding at the White House: ''...Of course at this dangerous time the White House is not a place for functions of any kind so we would not ask for it...'' The wedding of Alice Wilson and Stuart McElroy was eventually held at the White House on 7 August 1918. Largest letter measures 8.25'' x 11''. Four of the covers are included. Some toning and soiling, very good.
