Original War Industries Board document approving Metro Pictures Corporation (later MGM) construction of their studios, dated 5 October 1918. The original studios still stand today as Sony Pictures Studios at 10202 Washington Blvd. Headed, ''War Industries Board / Priorities Division / Washington D.C.'' and dated 5 October 1918, document is a ''Non War Construction License No 48'', addressed to Metro Pictures Corporation in New York. Reads in full, ''Your application, dated September 27th, for license to construct in Hollywood, California, one covered studio, with about three uncovered stages, all of wood construction, requiring about 410,000' of lumber and 9,000 lbs of metal tie rods, to cost not to exceed $75,000, is hereby approved, subject to all rules and regulations of the War Industries Board as to priorities and as to deliveries of material. This license number must be quoted on all applications for material which applications are to be made to Building Material Section, War Industries Board, for necessary allocation or clearance.'' With a printed signature of D.R. McLennan, Chief of the Non War Construction Section. With additional 4'' x 2'' permit paper-clipped to document and reading, ''106 Permit / War Industries Board Priorities / Division Washington D.C. / Erection of Studio and Stages''. Document on 1pp. measures 8.5'' x 11'', with two holes punched at top, some toning and tiny chips along edges. Very good condition.
