'Temporary withdrawal card'' given to Mary Astor by the Screen Actors Guild upon her retirement from acting in 1965. After enjoying a hugely successful career on the big screen that culminated with an Oscar and her iconic role opposite Humphrey Bogart in ''The Maltese Falcon'', Astor decided to retire from acting to pursue a writing career instead. Dated 1 November 1965, card reads on the verso, ''The member noted on the face hereof, in good standing with Screen Actors Guild, is excused from paying dues until such date as he or she goes to work in motion pictures...'' Measures 3.75'' x 2.5''. Slight toning else near fine.
