Bernard Montgomery signed first edition of ''A History of Warfare''. Published by Harper Collins: London: 1968. The author signs upon the fly-leaf: ''Montgomery of Alamein F.M. [Field Marshal]'' The illustrated history spans ancient warfare to the nuclear age. Montgomery, British commander of Allied ground troops at Normandy, states in his preface: ''The aim of the general must be not only to win wars but also to play his part in preventing them.'' 7'' x 10'' book runs 584pp., bound in red linen boards and lettered in gold. Very good condition.
