Lot includes a letter of provenance from Martha's great-granddaughter, dated 1852 and reading: ''Autographs of Mrs. Martha Washington for G. Washington Lewis his Great Great Grand Mother left by his Grand Mother E.P. Lewis.'' A note on the left corner identifies the author as Eleanor Lewis, the mother of George Washington Lewis, and the daughter of Eleanor (Nelly) Parke Custis Lewis, Martha Washington's granddaughter from her first marriage. Letter of provenance measures 7.25'' x 2.75'' on one page. Signed slip is trimmed irregularly, else near fine.
