Undated Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed to his wife, Mamie. The letter, beginning with ''Darling'', reads, ''Miss Roe is going to mail to you messages I've received from Hal Margurn and mother, together with copies of replies I have made. Today I tried to send you flowers from [son] Johnny and me. Hope they are nice. I deliberately waited a few days because when I left the flowers were still coming into your room so rapidly that you had to send them out! I hope ours are nice. Since coming to the hospital I've constantly improved, but my cough and sore nose still persist. By next Tues. or Wed. I should get out. Wish I knew what your prospects were -- I don't suppose you could possibly be in shape to go to O.N. Game. The train goes right to the stadium, and we could carry blankets galore! That could be a week from yesterday. Wonder whether there is any hope! Stack phones you every day -- then to me to give a report. How sorry I am you are not here. Davy is living in the other room of this suite! Miss Roe is down the hall somewhere -- Gen. Beck & Col. Fulton come in at all hours and they still have 2 messes on the job...I'm in a hospital and quite like yours -- but at first I had one of the 'hotel' beds. It was nice, but I couldn't sit up. Well sweet -- the only real reason I'm writing is just to tell you again I love you, and to hope you're out of that place soon! I must get back to Washington to get to work and I do hope you can be there. If we have to do the d- -- job. I want to get in our house as soon as we can.'' Eisenhower signs, ''Always yours / Ike''. He adds a postscript reading, ''Best to all the family and to Dr. Deering and your nice nurses. / D ''. Light toning to 8'' x 10.5'' 2pp. letter with 4'' tear to first page. Overall very good.
