Dwight D. Eisenhower autograph letter signed during WWII. He writes to his wife Mamie, dating the letter 22 November: ''Darling: I thought the pressure would be off me for a week or so, beginning today. But my period of attending to my own business only has been cut to two days and then I start again the hurley burley of flutting hither and yon on somebody else's directions...understand that in the kind of a life I lead secrecy as to location, intended movement, and purpose of action is essential...my letters to you probably sound as if my mind is slightly (or more) affected. In the past week I've had a constant cold. It is now past all stages except that of a running nose, and my poor little snub nose is as sore as a boil and feels the size of a Bermuda onion. I'd like the opportunity to crawl in your bed and have you bring me hot lemonade, asperin, and a brand new disposition. Not exciting for you, but I'd allow you time off on Thursday afternoons. It would be great to see you! About once every three months I get a wild notion that I could slip away for a trip home - but always the hope disappears into thin air in the face of stern necessity.
