John Quincy Adams signature, "J. Q. Adams" in black ink. Signed slip is clipped from a bank check, reportedly from 1843, during Adams' unprecedented term as Congressman following his departure from executive office. Two years prior, Adams notably fought in Congress to free the slaves of the Spanish slave ship Amistad. Slip measures 2.25" x 0.75", tucked into a separate slip of paper labeled "Cut from a bank cheque, dated 15 Nov. 1843", which measures 4.5" x 2". Date is penciled to top edge of signed slip, else near fine.
