Edie Bouvier Beale autograph letter signed, ''Edie B''. Letter to Ms. Janet Hosking in New York is dated 16 January 1981 and reads in part, ''...the address book...I lost mine when I sold the house!...I had the 'Bangkok flu' twice! Missed Xmas at my aunt's! Went back to bed for 4 more days and then was sick for New Years...I had some invitations but only went out twice - Carnegie Hall and out to dinner with a friend...These are very serious times - also many new germs floating around...'' Edie Beale famously lived in poverty and squalor with her mother at Grey Gardens; in 1971 Edie's cousin, Jackie Kennedy Onassis helped them avoid eviction by cleaning their house and removing 1,000 bags of garbage. Letter is accompanied by the original mailing envelope bearing Beale's return address at Henry St. in South Hampton, NY. 2pp. letter is written in red ink on a Christmas card. Measures 5'' x 3.75''. Near fine.
