''American Fairy Tales'' by Frank Baum, signed first edition published by George M. Hill Company: Chicago & New York: 1901. Classic volume contains a dozen illustrated stories. Baum's autograph inscription to the front free endpaper is datelined Chicago, 30 October 1901 and reads, ''Dear Dorothy - These stories are different from other fairy tales, but I hope they will please you by way of contrast + I had more fun writing them than any other book I have published. Always yours, L. Frank Baum''. Book is unpaginated, bound in pictorial cloth boards. Measures 6'' x 8.5''. A great deal of fading to cover art and spine; fabric loss to board corners, very slight cocking to spine, cracking to interior front hinge and a chip to the upper right corner of front free endpaper. Very good overall given age.
