The author of the patriotic song, ''America,'' or ''My Country, 'Tis of Thee'' writes the first stanza of the song, in full: ''My country, 'tis of thee, / Sweet land of liberty, / Of thee I sing; / Land where my fathers died, / Land of the pilgrims' pride, / From every mountain side / Let freedom ring. / [signed] S. F. Smith.'' Single-page quote is dated 25 March 1895, less than a year before Smith's death. Measures 4'' x 5.75''. Lightly toned, else fine.
