Document signed by founding father Samuel Huntington, ''Saml Huntington'' as president of the Connecticut committee for ratification of the U.S. Constitution. Handwritten document is a pay voucher to Captain Joseph Williams, datelined Norwich, 4 February 1788. Huntington signed the Declaration of Independence as a representative of Connecticut and served as President of the Continental Congress from 1779-1781. Document is countersigned by three other men, one notable in his own right: Oliver Wolcott, Jr. signs as Comptroller of Connecticut, whose father signed the Declaration and who himself became Secretary of the Treasury under George Washington. Also signed by John Kingsbury, a Clerk in the Comptroller's office and Shubael Able, who claimed the voucher. Runs 2pp. on a single sheet of fragile paper. Measures 4.75'' x 7.5''. Separation to folds, else near fine given age.
