American illustrator Garth Williams' preliminary pencil sketch for the 1959 children's book ''Emmett's Pig'' by Mary Stolz. Williams' depictions of characters from classics such as ''Charlotte's Web'' continue to broaden children's imaginations today. The drawing, which depicts Emmett perching on the grass with his small pig, indeed became the cover of the book. Signed ''Garth Williams'' in pencil beneath the sketch, drawing on tracing paper measures 5.75'' x 9.5'' with very small numbers written in pencil at bottom left, presumably the ISBN. Near fine.
