Dated 27 May 1889, letter to his wife Julie is written in French and translates to: ''My dear Julie, Grandmother had a very bad night, she is becoming increasingly weak, although this morning saw a relative turn for the better. I think you had better send me my black frock coat, summer cotton undershorts, and a white shirt. I have some white false collars here. We are in for a disaster. We'll soon be very sad, as you must realize - the doctor has not yet come this morning. All my love to you and the children. Your loving Husband, C.
