President Andrew Johnson Invitation to Dine at the White House -- Rare Invitation from the Johnson Administration

Rare invitation from President and First Lady Johnson, requesting ''the pleasure of Mr. & Mrs. Robinson's Company to Dine on Friday next at 6 o'clock Mch. 14th 1868''. Elegantly printed invitation measures 6'' x 5'', with a large embossed ''J'' on the upper blank portion. The likely invitee, William E. Robinson, was a Democratic representative from New York who in the 1840's wrote for the New York Tribune under the name ''Richelieu.'' Minor wear and mounting remnants on verso, else near fine.
