Upon his personal stationery, datelined 20 January 1890, letter reads in full, "Dear Mr. Briggs, I am only just back from Washington, and have not come to your letter till this moment. It is therefore too late for the appointment you propose. But I think I could be at a meeting next Saturday night (25th). Meanwhile, I have set Mr. Preston to clearing up our whole concern, and I hope at your ward meeting on Thursday it will all be clear. Truly yours, Edw. E. Hale". Runs 2pp. on a single sheet. Measures 5.25" x 8". Toning and mounting remnants to one panel of verso, else near fine.
