Darryl F. Zanuck signed script for "The Blue Bird", his 1940 production starring Shirley Temple. Front cover of the script is marked "Temporary" and signed "D. Z." in pencil in large letters above an illegible note scrawled in his hand. The first page is inscribed by Zanuck to the movie's director Walter Lang, "Lang - / Don't act like / 41-43 / 110 / Animals - / dog-cat". The cited pages are present, though detached from script, and have portions underlined in pencil. Accompanied by a typed letter signed regarding the script, from Jason S. Joy, the public relations representative for 20th Century Fox. In charge of screening scripts for adherence to Production Code, Joy writes, "Dear Darryl: I like the script very much…story-line difficulties have been straightened out…dialogue has been very much improved by being made more old-fashioned…I have no suggestions to make concerning either story or Code or censorship…" Script is bound with brads between green paper covers bearing the 20th Century Fox logo. Runs 153pp. and measures 9.5" x 11.5". Small tears to cover edges and faint toning to leaves, else near fine. From the Daryl F. Zanuck Estate.
