Datelined Sharon Springs, 17 July 1856, his letter to Miss Campbell reads, in part: ''...I had intended to have accompanied the book back which you were so obliging as to loan me, with a note expressing my thanks - but as Miss Benton unexpectedly returned it I avail myself of the earliest moment to say to you how much I have been pleased...M. C. Perry''. Single-page letter measures 5'' x 8''. Creasing, else near fine.
