Chester A. Arthur autograph document signed as Quartermaster General during the Civil War. Dated 30 October 1862, document reads in full: ''The quarters desired by Major Rowland being beyond the limits of this state, his application therein within made is respectfully referred to the Commander-in-Chief. The quarters are the same occupied by Col. Berdan and are particularly well adapted for the drill and practice of sharp shooters. I think no harm can result from allowing Major Rowland to quarter his recruits there and recommend that his request be granted / C.A. Arthur / QM Genl''. Note on folded blue paper measures 3.5'' x 7.75''. Small tear at top, otherwise near fine with very strong ink writing.
