Eloquent Frederic Bartholdi autograph quote signed, a beautifully worded anecdote about his contemporary, American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Bartholdi, mastermind of the Statue of Liberty writes, in full, ''I shall always recall [Henry Wadsworth] Longfellow, who received me as if he had always known me, who, when I left him, pressed my hand as if he wished to convey electrically that pressure to his friends in France, charging me to express to them all his enthusiasm for their plans. It gave me so much pleasure to see that noble figure, that several times I made the journey to Boston to pass some hours there. Bartholdi''. A note at the bottom, likely by Bartholdi, reads, ''History of the Statue of Liberty published by the North American Revue''. Single-page autograph document measures approximately 6'' x 8.5'' and appears near fine save for a few small and faint stains. Matted with steel blue fabric and burgundy velour beneath an illustration of the Statue and framed to an overall size of 12.5'' x 22.5''.
