1679 broadside issued by King Charles II offering to pardon ''Popish Plot'' informants. A man named Titus Oates fabricated a rumor that there existed a Catholic conspiracy to kill Charles, the so-called ''Popish Plot.'' Dated 30 October 1679, the broadside indicates the clemency offer expires ''...before the last day of February next...'' More than a dozen people were executed in the hunt for conspirators before Charles uncovered Oates' perjury. Broadside measures 10.25'' x 13''. Foxing, toning and creasing. Mounted to paper to an overall size of 11.5'' x 18.5'', with irregularly trimmed edges. Very good condition.
