Andrew Johnson document signed as President, dated 25 April, 1865. Here, Johnson appoints a John J. White to Postmaster in Jerseyville, Illinois for a four year term. Signed boldly, ''Andrew Johnson''. With original blindstamp seal intact at lower left, document measures 18'' x 11.5'' with two 1.5'' enclosed vertical tears at center, minor toning and folds throughout. Very good. Document is housed in original Post Office Department postmarked envelope addressed to White. Also includes an official document from the Post Office Department signed by Postmaster General ''W. Dennison'' dated 11 March 1865. Card-style partially printed document has type on cover and measures 8.25'' x 13'' folded. With original postmarked envelope. Lastly includes a copy of a letter by White announcing his resignation from the Postmaster position, again with original envelope. Very good overall.
