Richard Cutts autograph letter signed to President James Madison informing him of Napoleon's capture. Cutts, Madison's brother-in-law and the president of the Office of Discount and Deposit of the United States Bank, datelines the correspondence Boston, 8 August 1815. Letter announcing the end of the Napoleon juggernaut reads in part, ''...The Captain reports that Bonaparte after the action of the 18th returned to Paris for more men...and was imprisoned...This report is believed by some, & doubted by others...[signed] Richard Cutts''. Cutts writes James Madison's name at lower left, as recipient. Single page letter measures 8'' x 7.5''. Toning, chipping to edges, adhesive to right edge and reinforced bottom portion to compensate for paper loss. Overall in fair to good condition, quite legible and attractive.
