General Dwight Eisenhower autograph letter signed to his wife, Mamie, dated 10 March [1944]. He would have been writing from the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force at Bushy Park in London in these months before the D-Day landing. Letter reads in part, ''Darling / Today I sent you a teletype reference coat, decoration, etc. in answer to one you sent yesterday. I should have thought the coat would have reached you by this time. I'm fearfully afraid you'll be disappointed in it...I started this early today; it is now 10 minutes to 6 and I've had a day! And it is still going on! Certainly I had a number of things to talk to you about, but now my mind seems blank. I'm getting forgetful, I fear. One thing though -- your teletype said your latest 2 letters were dated 14 & 28 of Feb. Well you'll get others, dated between, because I never, no matter how rushed, let that much time intervene. Since I write to you in longhand I have no record, and cannot tell you when I wrote or what I said -- but I do know I write often. I miss you terribly. The war wouldn't be nearly so tough on me if you could be here -- though I'd run you crazy with my irregular hours and hit and run trips. But it's very lonesome and I'd love to see you home when I get there every day. I've written lately to [their son] Johnny, but to few others. So when you get a chance give all my boy best. By the way, I see that some of my personal letters are now appearing in the newspapers! What a commentary on someone's good sense! Well sweet -- here I go. Be good to yourself & don't forget me, because I love you all the time...'' Eisenhower signs, ''Yours / Ike''. The 8'' x 10.25'' 2pp. letter is in fine condition.
